Youth Faith Formation K5-5th grade including First Communion and Confirmation
Faith Formation
is a life long pursuit. You began at baptism and end when you leave this world to be with Christ in heaven. As the Catechism states in CCC 2225 “Through the grace of the sacrament of marriage, parents receive the responsibility and privilege of evangelizing their children. Parents should initiate their children at an early age into the mysteries of the faith of which they are the ‘first heralds’ for their children. A wholesome family life can foster interior dispositions that are genuine preparation for a living faith and remain a support for it throughout one’s life.”
The staff and parish members of St. Theresa the Little Flower want to support your family in all stages of your life. As the Director of Faith Formation my job is to support you the parents in the faith education of your child. You are the primary models of the Catholic faith for your child/children. The Catechists and I are here to walk beside your family and help you grow in the knowledge and love of Christ. In order to enroll your children in our faith formation program you must be a registered, active member of our parish. We define active members as those who attend Mass at our parish on Saturday evening/Sunday morning, contribute financially to our parish, and serve our parish in some capacity.
This year we will offer faith formation for k4-5th grade,SAINTS in Training, on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:30am. . Each class has a patron saint and we will learn about the saints and celebrate their feast days. This year we will focus on the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit and how the saints model those fruits and gifts for us. Each class will learn about these fruits and gifts during the year and the Catechists will award a "fruit" or "gift" to each child which was displayed during the year at our year end closing in the spring of 2023.
Second grade is for First Communion preparation. You will need to submit a copy of your child's baptism certificate at the time of registration, and your child has to have attended faith formation the year prior to being enrolled in the First Communion class.
Confirmation 2022-2023 information:
Confirmation is a two year process beginning in the eighth grade. Your child must have participated in our middle school program in order to register for Confirmation in the eighth grade. If your child is a rising freshman for the 2022- 2023 school year and did not attend our Confirmation program the previous year, they will need to go through the two year process. Weekend Mass attendance, weekly Confirmation class attendance , participation in our youth group, retreat attendance, completing service hours and a Saint presentation are all mandatory required elements for Confirmation. Our hope is that by the time they are confirmed they will have grown in their knowledge and love of Christ and realized that their relationship with Christ is an ongoing process.
They will need to have the following items by September 11, 2022 and bring these items to each class.
- A Catholic Bible. My recommendation is the Catholic Youth Bible from St. Marys Press, the Igantius Bible, the Catholic Journaling Bible (great for ladies), or the Great Adventure Bible by Ascension Press.
- A red 1"binder with tabs.
- They will need to complete this Summertime Saint survey and put in their notebook.
- A pen and pencil.
